Internet, I'd like you to know

There is a special man in my life.

There are many, many reasons I didn't think I was going to be able to write that sentence.

Among those reasons are low self-esteem, and also the fact that I have never dated a boy.

Have I written about that yet here? No? *Scrolls back* Yeah, guess not. It's been all Jewish stuff, Jewish stuff, Jewish stuff.

So, let me put it into context.

I'm dating a nice Jewish boy!

My grandma will be so relieved.

Funny blogs help me get through my day.

Guys, I don't know about you. But when I'm at work as a counselor, in between people, I need something that's going to crack me up.

Today, I started out at Steam Me Up, Kid. A good start!

But then! I got linked to a regular commenter on her site, Miss Yvonne.

And then! I got linked to a weight loss blog, fatdad5k, and I was all: SWEET! A dude out there trying to do what I'd love to do!

And then, I found his post about Festivus.

I may be a Jewish chick going home to her semi-Christian family for Kwanzaa this year, but I was so thankful for the reminder of what the holiday season really is about.

Festivus. The holiday for the rest of us.

Macaroni and cheese, the airing of grievances: this is what holidays should be made of.

Thanks, Fatdad.

So glad to meet you.

Oot and aboot

I've really been getting around in the past month or so!

I went to Virginia, and had a nice time with my family. It seemed way too short this year! (It was light on the drama, too, which I appreciated.)

Then I came home and housesat for a friend, it was just for the weekend, but then I was off again to Cleveland!

So I finally will have some time to chill out, unpack, clean up, and do laundry tomorrow.

Then the High Holidays are coming up.

They actually started off yesterday with a Selichot service. My temple partnered with another local temple, and I really loved the feeling of community.

I got to the temple early, and spent some contemplative time in the sanctuary. I read a little, and did some thinking about how the past year has been.

It's been a hard one.

My cancer scare turned into a cancer situation: I don't have cancer, but I might be in the process of developing it. Whatever that means. It's pretty mindblowing, but I'm somehow getting used to it.

I think it's incredible what we're able to adapt to.

And that's about all the news that's fit to print!

I'm hoping to start playing guitar for Sunday school at temple. Will keep you updated! :)

15.444

This is how many vacation days I currently have.

Do you have any idea how tempting it is to call off for the rest of June?

I'm just tired of health stuff and the accompanying worry.

My first aliyah

I had my first aliyah on Saturday! It finally happened: one of my minyan peeps came up to me and said, "Do you feel comfortable enough with the prayers to have an aliyah?" DO I?!?!? HECK YES I DO!!! I mean, um, "Yes. I would love to."

It was exhilarating. To hold the Torah and pause before each of the members of my community, to see the scroll so close. I was so happy, I glided back to my seat.

"Yasher koach" from my fellow congregant, and my rabbi.

:) May it be the first of many.
